Football content calendar template
A free matchday planner built the way a club actually works: one row per fixture, and every post that fixture needs as its own column. Download it, send it to whoever runs your socials, and tick it off week by week.
Most club pages don't go quiet because someone stopped caring. They go quiet because there was no list — so the preview only happened when someone remembered, and the half-time card only happened when the wifi worked at the ground.
Download it
Two versions. Both are plain CSV, so they open in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or LibreOffice with no conversion.

What's in it
Each fixture gets a row with 22 columns. The first six are the facts you already know, and the rest are the content slots — so nothing gets forgotten in the 90 minutes it actually matters.
| fixture_date | opponent | competition | home_away | venue | kickoff | preview_graphic | lineup_graphic | ht_card | ft_card | potm | sponsor_block | next_fixture | status | notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-10-03 | Ashford Athletic | Surrey Premier Cup | H | Riverside Rec | 14:00 | todo | todo | — | — | — | todo | todo | drafted | |
| 2026-10-10 | Hartley Wanderers | League | A | Hartley Rec | 14:00 | todo | todo | — | — | — | todo | todo | todo |
Columns are deliberately narrow and consistent so you can sort by status and see what's still outstanding before kick-off.
How to use it in a week
Step 1 — Before the week starts
Fill the fixture row: opponent, competition, home or away, venue, kick-off. If you don't know the opponent yet, leave TBC — an incomplete row still beats no row.
Step 2 — 24 hours before kick-off
Preview graphic, preview caption with team news, predicted XI graphic. These are the ones that drive attendance, so they must go out before the day, not on it.
Step 3 — During the match
Half-time score card straight from the touchline. A score card at half-time outperforms a full match report posted at 11pm, because people are still looking.
Step 4 — Full-time, within the hour
Full-time result card, reaction, player of the match. Then the next-fixture graphic in the same session — that single post is what stops the page going quiet for six days.
Step 5 — Weekly, once
Sponsor mention with the exact wording your sponsor wants, a fan poll, and the newsletter section. Then set every status back to todo for the next fixture.
Why the columns are in this order
They follow the matchday timeline rather than the alphabet, so working left to right is the same as working through the week. The status column exists so you can filter to "todo" on a Friday and instantly see what's missing. The notes column is the one people skip and the one that pays: after four fixtures you'll know exactly which posts get engagement and which you can stop doing.
Common mistakes this fixes
- Posting the result but not the next fixture. The next-fixture graphic is the cheapest retention tool a club has.
- Waiting for the final whistle to post anything. Half-time is the highest-attention moment of the week.
- Free-typing the sponsor name each week. Put the sponsor's exact wording in the template once, then reuse it — no more misspelt sponsor.
- No record of what worked. The notes column turns a season of posting into actual evidence.

Where this fits
The template is the plan. Filling it in is the work — and that's what the content engine does: it takes your fixture list and produces the graphics and posts for each row, so the calendar fills itself.

Questions
Is it really free?
Yes. The download needs no email and no account. Subscribing is optional and only gets you the updated version each month.
Does it work for non-football sports?
The structure transfers — swap the matchday slots for your sport's equivalents. For live scores, tables and fixtures across 25 sports, see the free sports data hub.
Can I share it with other clubs?
Please do. Send them the link rather than the file so they get the updated version.
What if our fixtures change?
Add a new row rather than editing the old one. You keep the history, and you can see how often you're actually rescheduling — which is usually more than clubs think.
